Can you tell us a bit about your role within the team and what your day-to-day responsibilities look like?
As the Director and co-founder of ZestHR, my role involves overseeing various aspects of the company from team management, client relations, general business management as well as project management of high profile clients. On a day-to-day basis I collaborate with our amazing team; ensuring smooth operations, delivery of quality products and brainstorming ways to enhance our service offering. Additionally, I actively engage with clients to understand their needs, address any contracts and foster strong relationships.
My overall goal in my role is to drive growth and success for the Zest team and our clients through credible and savvy collaboration, after all, our motto is to create vibrant cultures where people and business thrive.
How did you start your career in HR, and what led you to your current position?
As a young (slightly naïve) twenty-something, I had my first taste of HR as the team leader of an administration team. I loved engaging with the team and motivating them to meet business needs. From then I transitioned into HR Generalist roles which awarded me opportunities and exposure to the multi-facetted world of HR. To name a few, I’ve had opportunities; managing system implementations, enterprise agreement bargaining, managing complex performance management and investigations, as well as organisational design / change initiatives.
What led me to founding ZestHR was the opportunity to be bold. In all the opportunities I’ve had over the years, I’ve seen HR practices set up in the same old way which often result in ‘tick and flick’ exercises with no connection to business strategy. As a consultant (and leader of a business) I’m eager to change how organisations and their executive teams see HR. I can challenge the out-dated practices and promote People as being key to strategy success. When founding Zest, Kat and I wanted to be sure that (where we could) we would challenge the status quo.
What are the key skills you believe are necessary for success in your role, and how have you developed these over your career?
I’m one of the first to admit that there are always opportunities presented through work and personal life circumstances to learn and grow. As such I think to ensure success I’m grabbing those opportunities to challenge myself outside of my comfort zone. Competence is a core value of mine and maintaining my level of skill and knowledge is a driving factor to ensure high quality of work and success.
In addition to this, leadership, strategic thinking and communication are all equally as important to not just ensure I’m successful as a consultant but to ensure ZestHR continues to flourish.
Can you share a professional achievement you are particularly proud of?
Wow, I’ve had so many wonderful opportunities to continue to stretch myself into unknown territories but professionally, starting ZestHR with Kat is my proudest career moment. We’re 18 months into this and we have a business, a team of highly skilled and amazing people, and a strong presence in the market. Kat and I are reshaping our future, working with organisations that understand how critical it is to look after their people and most importantly working with our values front and centre.
